Coronavirus weekly update
Things you need to know about the coronavirus today:
- Today there are a total of 5,566 cases of coronavirus (numbers are down on the previous day). There are currently 38,140 active cases in the state. 163 people are in hospital and four are in ICU.
- The BA.2 Omicron variant has been detected in 47 countries and is the cause of surges over east and in the UK. Although it is highly transmissible, there is no data to suggest that BA.2 leads to more severe disease than previous Omicron sub-variants. There are no increases in hospitalisation numbers across the globe.

- An innovative and industry leading, Western Australian designed, coronavirus screening system has been approved for use in a large-scale trial to help detect coronavirus in the States ‘fly-in fly-out workforce and protect remote communities.
